After upgrading to EE 4 The average adult human body weighs around 62.5 kilograms this can vary depending on age, gender and size.Ģ. For example, a liter of water has a mass of 1 kilogram.ġ. They can also be used to measure the masses of other things like liquids and chemical substances. This includes both everyday items such as food, clothing, and furniture, as well as larger items such as cars and boats. Kilograms are commonly used to measure the weight of objects. Kilograms can also be expressed using other units such as pounds (1 kg = 2.2046 lbs). In addition to being used as a measure of mass, kilograms are also commonly used as a measure of weight on Earth’s surface since 1 kg has an approximate gravitational force of 9.81 newtons at sea level. This definition has been adopted by all countries that use the SI system including the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. The mass of this prototype is defined as exactly one kilogram. It is equal to the mass of a physical prototype, which is made from an alloy of platinum and iridium, kept in Sèvres, France. What is a kilogram?Ī kilogram is a unit of mass in the International System of Units (SI). Knowing these examples of how it can be applied will help you use this unit correctly in your everyday life. The gram is an extremely useful unit of measurement for objects that are too small to accurately measure on a regular scale. A US penny, for example, weighs 2.5 grams a nickel weighs 5 grams and a dime weighs 2.268 grams. A single gold ring may weigh about 5 grams, while larger pieces of jewelry could for example weigh up to 15-20 grams depending on their size and quality.Įxample 3: Grams can also be used when measuring the weight of coins. Despite being enemies, Ryder still takes pleasure in rescuing the mayor from disaster. This is particularly evident in PAW Patrol: The Movie, where as a plot point, after becoming Adventure City's mayor, Humdinger wastes no time in banning dogs from pretty much every location within the metropolis, having no regard for it's citizens. In " Dino Rescue: Pups and the Lost Dino Eggs", he refused to return a young T-Rex to its enraged mother, even when the latter was chasing him.Īlthough Humdinger doesn’t like the PAW Patrol pups, he has shown a general dislike for dogs in general, because he's a cat person. He is stubborn and often doesn't know when to quit. He trusts his nephew Harold, even though the latter often betrays him. However, his later appearances show that this did not take since he continues to be villainous. He was also touched by Mayor Goodway's attempt to help him when he was being carried away by his balloon bouquet and promised to try to be a little nicer. He is also shown to be slightly narcissistic as he called a Friendship Day Cake that resembled him the most beautiful thing he had ever seen. In " Pups Save Friendship Day", his competitiveness is so great that he is willing to turn a holiday about friendship into a contest between Foggy Bottom and Adventure Bay. In " Pups Save a Snowboard Competition", he is shown to care about Cat Rubble and Cat Chase when they are in danger of falling off a cliff as he is shown nervously biting his fingernails, though he returns to his usual self once they are safe and reluctantly thanks Ryder and the PAW Patrol due to his pride, but ends up thanking them albeit begrudgingly. However, his plans can occasionally backfire due to his own overconfidence and lack of forethought, resulting in him needing to be rescued by the PAW Patrol. He is also shown to be quite greedy in "Pups Save an Outlaw's Loot". He is also shown to be willing to resorting to stealing something he wants, such as Wild Wilbur's hidden treasure (" Pups Save an Outlaw's Loot") and Farmer Yumi's priceless Martial Arts scroll ("Pup-Fu!"). He also became slightly more villainous in Season 2 (whereas in Season 1, he was simply antagonistic) to the point he and the Kitten Catastrophe Crew have their own secret lair and he behaves more like a stereotypical villain, such as laughing maniacally and even covertly observing the PAW Patrol through a video monitor (" Pup-Fu!"). He is also the assembler of the Kitten Catastrophe Crew, a group of mischievous cats who perform heinous deeds to support his efforts. In Season 1, while antagonistic towards Mayor Goodway, he mostly played fairly due in part to confidence in his record of winning and generally being undefeated in most of the competitions he participated in, only to end up losing to Mayor Goodway and the PAW Patrol.Īs of Season 2, he usually cheats in order to win, showing a lack of morality and "win-at-all-costs" personality. Mayor Humdinger is rather conceited, thinking his town is better than Adventure Bay in every way possible. He claims to have been the person to make puffy jackets cool. It is also revealed he knows how to sew at a surprisingly well level. He made the cover of a magazine, which he keeps in a chest to this day. In " Pups Save a Puffy Mayor", it is revealed he took up the occupation of a fashion model, and hand model, to pay for college. As he was even dressed as a clown, to trick citizens for stealing their paintings. He later mention it again in " Pups Solve the Mystery of the Missing Art". In " Pups Save a Clown", it's been revealed that Mayor Humdinger dreamed of becoming a clown ever since he was a little Humdinger. He argues a lot with Adventure Bay's mayor and he will do anything to be "on top".įrom " Pups Save a Soapbox Derby", we learned something about his personal hygiene. Mayor Humdinger can be grumpy at times, seen when he lost in "Pup Pup and Away" and Mayor Goodway or Adventure Bay won. It’s the only way I can really write lyrics - if I’m not thinking about the musicality and I worry about it later. I think it’s also because I write the same song over and over and over. I ended up recording and writing sort of in order. Does that mean you wrote this early on, and you couldn’t write the others until this was finished or more like, you imagine the album in a certain sequence and have to complete each one in that order?īRIDGERS: I think it just fell into place like this. STEREOGUM: I read something recently about how you work on your albums in order. It’s a love song, for sure, but it’s also about myself - my own growth. The more your actions might push towards the things you want happening. This song is more about how - at the risk of being corny - manifesting things the more you think about stuff. “Smoke Signals” is a love song about waking up to your reality, in a way, finding someone who shares the same interests as you. STEREOGUM: Right, I remember it being described as a spiritual cousin to “Smoke Signals.” When you say “sequel,” do you think it literally answers back to that song?īRIDGERS: I think it’s just another love song. I’m never going to release a fucking pop song that goes on the radio so I was like, “Let’s embrace it and release whatever we want first.” The instruments and the voices, we were very picky about those things. It has the least stuff on it but it’s still very produced. It just felt not too weird, not too different from the music I make, and I was proud of it - it stood out to me. PHOEBE BRIDGERS: I think it felt like a bridge from my last record to this record, and also my lead single to the first record was “Smoke Signals,” which is really similar in form and subject matter. Why did that one feel like the introduction to the album in both instances? STEREOGUM: Punisher starts with an instrumental track, and then “Garden Song” is the proper opener and the lead single. Now that you can hear Punisher for yourself, read along below to get the stories behind the album. She walked us through each song on Punisher, from inspiration to songwriting decisions to the host of guests that accompanied her. We recently caught up with Bridgers, who was calling from home in LA during quarantine. A few years after Stranger In The Alps, Bridgers’ life has changed a whole lot, and a lot of Punisher grapples with how you go about embracing that when the same old demons still follow you. But Bridgers’ albums are very much rooted in her own personal experience. A sense of drift, being young today and seeking to make sense of when you’ll actually feel present in your own life. There are ways you can hear broad, generational conditions in her writing. Across Punisher, her words are biting, hilarious, open-hearted, therapeutic, turning from unflinching honesty one moment to a sardonic punchline the next. While there is a subtle intricacy to Punisher musically - sparse or meditative compositions lightly embellished by orchestration, rare outliers like the catchy “Kyoto” or the climactic “I Know The End” broadening the album’s scope - Bridgers is more of a lyrics-first artist. It follows some of the same structures and approaches as Stranger In The Alps, but refines and expands and deepens them. The good news is that Punisher delivers in all the ways one might hope. That makes Punisher a funny proposition: It simultaneously doesn’t feel like a sophomore album at all given Bridgers’ output and how well we’ve come to know her songwriting, but also like a sophomore album that arrives with even more pressure and attention than the usual highly-anticipated second outing. In just a handful of years, she’s released several albums, already building up a diverse and complex body of work. The following year, she formed a trio with Lucy Dacus and Julien Baker called boygenius then, last year, she formed a band with one of her heroes, Conor Oberst, and called it Better Oblivion Community Center. But in the ensuing years, Bridgers’ stature as a respected musician and generational voice has risen significantly, and quickly. With that album alone, she was already greeted as one of the most exciting, assured young songwriters newly on the scene. In 2017, Phoebe Bridgers released her debut Stranger In The Alps. Those kind of sales won't happen again, I don't think. "It feels like back when the dinosaurs walked the earth. While each of her past albums sold well and had its share of hits, it was Jewel's debut - "Pieces Of You" - that sold upwards of 12 million copies. She then moved to San Diego, where she lived in a 1979 Volkswagen van and built a following performing live. Jewel graduated from Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan in 1992. That one was too country to fit on anything else, so I had to wait for this record." You know, I've put country songs on other records, but very middle of the line ones. I wrote that for him when I was about 16 or 17 in honor of his style of music. I have a real nostalgic, soft spot in my heart for that style of music. "He wrote great country music - more like cowboy music though," she added. We went on cattle drives every spring and every fall and my dad wrote songs and I grew up singing with him in bars and honky-tonks and lumberjack joints. It's like going 100 years back in time when you go up there. There were no towns nearby and we had to live off the land. My dad's a cowboy and we lived on a ranch with no electricity. "They settled Alaska before it was a state in the '50s, believe it or not. She began writing songs after moving to Anchorage to live with her mother at age 16.Īround this time, she penned "Loved By You (Cowboy Waltz)" for her father. After her parents' divorce two years later, she stayed with her father and sang with him at gigs. Father Atz Kilcher got her into yodeling and country and folk music mother Lenedra Carroll exposed her to opera and poetry. And it hopefully works good with where I'm at."īorn in Payson, Utah, Jewel Kilcher was a baby when her family moved to Homer, Alaska. You know, I'm not pandering or trying to become anybody. So even rock songs like 'Love Me, Just Leave Me Alone' sound good in the set. There's a lot more pop, slick stuff on the radio than me! I've always had a very eclectic style that's sort of country, folk, pop, rock - all blended together. And, in fact, it's more country in some ways. You look at the radio and 'You Were Meant For Me' sounds like what country is now. "I mean you'd be surprised what country is now. So when I do 'Who Will Save Your Soul' and 'Foolish Games' and 'You Were Meant For Me' and 'Hands' and 'Standing Still,' it sounds great next to 'Stronger Woman' and 'I Do' and 'Anyone But You' - the country stuff."īut Jewel must change up those non-country classics to make them more country, right? "I've been really happy to be played on country radio. "Hopefully, it's genre-defying," she added. That's sort of what I mirrored on this album. And Linda Ronstadt's 'Heart Like a Wheel' album, I thought, was just one of the best records ever made. And I'm tickled because I grew up such a fan of Merle Haggard and Loretta Lynn. It's really just a great home for me to be able to be a storyteller. "I didn't like up and become someone else. "Yeah, this record isn't a huge departure," Jewel said in a June 26 interview from Indianapolis, Ind. So when Jewel and her tour mates play July 24 at the New England Dodge Music Center in Hartford, will she perform any of the mega-hits from her previous five albums? And her first official country album, 2008's "Perfectly Clear," showcases songs she wrote as far back as when she was 16 or 17 years old. Her influences include Kris Kristofferson, Crystal Gayle, John Prine and Brenda Lee. In fact, Jewel - the singer-songwriter who helped her longtime label, Atlantic Records, sell more than 27 million albums - has been incorporating country music into her pop-rock albums for years. When Jewel takes the stage each night on the Brad Paisley tour - which also includes country acts Julianne Hough and Chuck Wicks and runs through November - she actually feels right at home in what you could consider her new musical genre. |
